The Roamer's Electrical System is outfitted with your choice of Victron 200ah or 330 ah battery. The battery hooks up to the Lynx Distributor which helps monitor the status of each fuse. Main battery management will come from the Victron...
Victron has mastered the complex electrical needs of your overland rig and adventures with awesome different pieces of equipment. Van Genius utilizes many if not all of these pieces in his own personal vans and talks about the beauty of each component.
When battery life and safety matter to you in your overland adventures, then choose the number 1 in all things electric...Victron Energy! Van Genius walks you through the uses of the Victron Battery Protect 220 and the many valuable uses for you!
The Van Genius is here to clarify the need and advantages of the Victron Energy BMV 712 Smart Battery Monitor with Bluetooth! This is the latest version of the BMV Amp Hour Meter, now called the BMV712. It replaces the BMV702 that went before it by adding built in Bluetooth. It keeps track of current flowing in and out of a battery bank and uses a sophisticated algorithm to read out the state of charge of the battery in Percentage Remaining and Amp Hours Remaining. It also displays Volts and Amps, time to go, and Consumed Energy and keeps track of Historic Data including Battery Efficiency, Average Discharge, Deepest Discharge, Number of Cycles, Overvoltage, and Undervoltage Alarms.
Victron Energy BMV 712 battery monitor
Monitors volts, amps, amp hours and time to go for a single battery bank.
Reads voltage (only) for a second bank, OR midpoint voltage
Can read temperature (with addition of optional temperature sensor)
Included shunt measures up to 500 Amps
For use with DC systems from 12 to 70V
Visual and audible alarms and programmable alarm
10 meter cable, connectors and fuse included.
We can special order shorter cables for a small charge but it will delay your order.
Special order cables come in 0.3m, 0.9m, 1.8m, 3m, and 5m
Removeable bezel allows round or square face for display
The primary advantage of the BMV 712 over the BMV 702 and separate Bluetooth Dongle is that by building in the Bluetooth component into the meter the VE Direct port is available for other uses.
The Van Genius helps break down the Smart Shunt and why you might add it to your electrical system!
Your phone acts as the display. The SmartShunt connects via Bluetooth to the Victron Connect App on your phone (or tablet) and you can conveniently read out all monitored battery parameters, like state of charge, time to go, historical information and much more.
Alternatively the SmartShunt can be connected and be read by a GX device. Connection to the SmartShunt is made via a VE.Direct cable.
The SmartShunt is a good alternative for a BMV battery monitor, especially for systems where battery monitoring is needed but less wiring and clutter is wanted. The SmartShunt is equipped with Bluetooth, a VE.Direct port and a connection that can be used for: monitoring a second battery, midpoint monitoring or a temperature sensor.
The Van Genius walks us through the usage of the Victron Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger! For use in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats where the alternator and the start battery are used to charge the service battery. The unit can be monitored and programmed via Bluetooth and can be remotely controlled via a remote on/off switch.
The Orion-Tr Smart charger can be used in 12V or 24V systems and is suitable for both lead acid and lithium batteries. Models are available up to 400W and unlimited multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase output power.
Suitable for high temperatures up to 55°C with a full rated output up to 40°C.

The Wanderer's electrical system is straightforward. The Victron VE Bus BMS helps you monitor everything from the overall voltage to amperage pulls to the amperage charges. This system is outfitted with Victron 200ah or 330 ah batteries hooked into a Lynx Distributor. From there a few fuses and a Blue Sea breaker panel are all there is between the electrical system and light to read by or a fresh brewed cup of coffee in the morning. Even better, it could be hooked up to our Nomadic 3000 12V for some cool, refreshing relief on a hot summer day!
All it takes to help charge the batteries back up for another day's use is a Victron Orion hooked up to your stock alternator or a secondary alternator if you choose. To kick your system up a notch, we have an option for solar charging with the solar MPPT.
